Strumigenys sp.1 04
Tumor and Palate Household Ants
Scientific name: Strumigenys sp.1

The body color is dark brown. The queen ant is similar to the worker ants except that it is slightly larger and has a winged base, it is not in the soldier ant/large worker ant class, has a heart-shaped head and the first abdominal segment has a spongy structure.

The Vermilion Jawed House Ant is a multi-posterior type of ant. Mature colonies consist of a few queen ants and dozens of termites (records show that some Vermilion Jawed House Ants can reach a size of at least 200 termites). It is a specialized ant that feeds on jumping insects. It can be found throughout Taiwan, nesting in soil, fallen trees and tree bark. It is not very adaptable and can be found in rural and mountainous areas. It prefers humid environments and does not have a distinctive foraging cycle, so its population is widely distributed.

Difficult to keep, feeds on jumping insects and uses gypsum nests. The nests should be maintained in a high humidity environment and be provided with water towers. Slow to grow.

Tumor Jaw Household Ants, Queen of Ants

This species has a heart-shaped head and a sponge-like abdomen. It hunts like the saw-pin ant by opening its jaws and waiting for the jumping insects to pass by before biting down quickly.
