Introduction

Two-spined wrinkled house ant is a common ant that can be found in human cities, suburbs and forests. It is highly adaptable and reproduces quickly.

 Ant Species Information

Double Ridge Wrinkle Home Ant

Scientific name: Tetramorium bicarinatum

Worker ants are reddish-brown in color. The queen ant is similar to the worker ants except that it is slightly larger and has a wing base, so it is not in the soldier ant/large worker ant class.

The Double Ridged Rumpled Household Ant is a multi-residue type of ant, with a mature colony consisting of dozens of queen ants and hundreds of worker ants. They are omnivorous ants that make full use of the available resources in the environment and prefer food with high fat and protein content. They can be found throughout Taiwan, nesting in hard rock crevices, soil surfaces and fallen logs. They are extremely adaptable and can be found in urban, suburban and mountainous areas. They prefer humid environments and do not have a distinctive foraging cycle, so their population is widely distributed.

It is very easy to keep. Feed is the staple food, but sugar water, cockroaches and egg yolks can also be used as food, and plaster ant nests are used. The nests should be maintained in a humid environment with water towers. The colony grows fast and consumes a lot of food. Frequent feeding is needed to maintain the colony's growth.
