The average lifespan of queen ants is 10~15 years, and the lifespan of worker ants is 3 months~1 year. The ants you buy are usually between new queen (0 years old) and 1 year old in a single year.

大黑巨山蟻的工蟻體型較小，且有非常高的溺斃機率，(我們也不知道是為何)，餵食必須注意給予量，另外，大黑巨山蟻若在２０工以前滅過一次(因意外死掉一定數量的工蟻)，基本上就養不起來了，會一直呈現產卵吃卵的循環，打擊飼養信心，所幸，只要妥善照顧，這種情況鮮少發生。
