Introduction
The Giant Hill Ant is a very large ant with a queen size of 1.8 centimeters. Large worker ants (soldier ants) are also close to the size of the queen, and since there are so many large worker ants, they are often called "giant soldiers", which makes them easy to keep.

The black-brown body color of the worker ants and the huge queen ant are the second largest among the known giant mountain ants in Taiwan. The queen ant is similar to the big black giant mountain ant in appearance, but it is a large worker ant with a huge size and the size of the queen ant is similar to that of the big black giant mountain ant.
Giant Hill Ant is a single queen ant with a mature colony consisting of one queen ant and about 2,000 to 6,000 worker ants. The Giant Hill Ant is an omnivorous and vegetarian ant that feeds on plant nectar, nectar secretion or small insects in the wild. It is found throughout Taiwan and nests in hard rock crevices and soil surfaces, and is nocturnal and widely distributed.
It is easy to keep, with feed as its staple food, using gypsum nests, aerated bricks and test tubes. The super large size of Giant Mountain Ant gives it the name of "Giant Soldier". Its fast growth, huge size and easy to feed make it a favorite of many ant farmers.

Detailed feeding method
How to keep Giant Hill Ant? Feed your colony with feed, use gypsum nests, aerated bricks, test tubes, and give them a water tower at room temperature. In this section, we will explain how to keep Giant Hill Ant from new to mature colony and what to pay attention to.
Spend at least 365 days
After the new one, there is not yet any work
After incubation in plugged tubes at 25~30 degrees Celsius and in a dark environment for about a month, the queen ants will start to lay eggs and hatch. During this period, the queen may not be fed, but it is recommended to feed the queen once a week. In this way, the number of eggs, larvae and cocoons will increase significantly, and it can help replenish the energy of the weakened queen.
New, 1~20 worker ants will be produced
After the first batch of worker ants are born, the feeding frequency will be increased and adjusted according to the colony development, from once a week to three times a week. Try not to interrupt the egg laying frequency of the queen ants, and do not give too much food to avoid food odor, and it is not recommended to feed live ants at this stage.
Small colony, 20~100 worker ants
As the population increases, the test tube space becomes insufficient. At this stage, we can provide plaster nests, aerated brick nests, or add a new test tube for the colony to live in. During the moving process, we must use the guiding method, and must not pour out the ants violently to prevent the colony from being shocked, which may lead to the stoppage of the queen ants' production. Adjust the feeding frequency according to the feeding condition, from once a week to 3 times a week, you may start to give live food to the colony (non-essential). Live food must be cooked or mutilated, as the ants have the habit of carrying the food back to the nest, so it is recommended to feed as few as possible so that the ants will not be able to finish all the food, which may lead to serious mold in the nest.
Small to medium sized colony, 100~1000 worker ants
Depending on the conditions, the colony will provide bigger nests and the population will increase, so the feeding frequency should be increased. Depending on the feeding conditions, the colony should be fed 2 to 4 times a week.
Mature colony, more than 1,000 workers
The maximum number of worker ants in a mature colony is around 3,000 to 5,000. At this stage, the colony will produce male ants, virgin ants, etc. Depending on the feeding status, the colony will be fed 5 to 7 times per week.
